Societal Consequences of God's People
Taking Vacations in the Kingdom of Darkness

The Godly Living Patterns study focuses upon the individual family.

An important word, though, is that an individual family does not live in isolation.

"Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint for us a king to govern us like all the nations." But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to govern us." And Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, "Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them. 1 Samuel 8:5b-7

This is a tragic historical event: Israel's rejection of God as their King. Sore consequences followed. Prior to this event, God Himself raised up judges to lead His people into the paths of righteousness. According to the traditions of the nations around them, Israel’s kings, thereafter, sought to appoint human sons. These were appointed by a human king based on human lineage instead of by a divine King who appointed Godly men to lead. The historical record of Israel thereafter reveals that more evil men led God’s people than good.

Samuel was a wonderful, Godly man; but he ignored God in a critical area. In this area concerning his family, he took an extended vacation in the enemy kingdom. Terrible consequences followed..

King David—another righteous man—took his own extended vacation in the enemy kingdom. Worse than the loss of his family was that he set the stage for his son Solomon's sin to divide the kingdom. That historical event led to dividing ten tribes from their temple and, ultimately, multitudes from their God.

A Christian family in the present day may not have the power to affect human kingdoms upon this earth. They may. But every Christian family should understand that extended vacations in the enemy kingdom negatively could impact society in some way. God forgives, but consequences follow.
