God's ways lead to peace. They lead to life. They lead to internal and eternal prosperity. And they don't always, to man, make a whole lot of sense.
God's ways are radically different from those of the world. And if thinking has not been renewed, a Christian can have big trouble with God's ways, too.
Fornication, adultery, promiscuity, and divorce have found a home in many churches. God forgives. Even so, these behaviors demonstrate a serious lack of love. What agape love is revealed in a man or a woman taking advantage of another?
Dating, often, starts this ball going. Pairing off and going off alone is normal to western civilization. It seems a rite of passage to maturity.
Nowhere in Scriptures does it say "Thou shalt not date." The fruit of dating, however, makes this practice more than suspect. It places young people into vulnerable situations which they often haven't the maturity to handle. It teaches young people to seek the ultimate love while stepping upon one or another. This un-Christlike behavior teaches, also, that when a relationship gets difficult that one walks away. It is, therefore, training for divorce.
Many recognize the dangers of the dating scene, where physical beauty is prized above character, and physical intimacy usually occurs. More, though, need to go beyond seeing the problem and finding the courage to address it.
There are alternatives. Courtship is growing in popularity. This is the practice of young people coupling but within the safety of their parents' oversight and counsel.
Betrothal has returned, too, to the western civilization scene after a long absence.
Rejecting fornication, adultery, divorce, promiscuity and dating is responsible behavior for a Christian. To reject such is to accept godly coupling patterns. And to do so is a wise start in laying a godly foundation for a godly home.
