III. The word “gift / free gift”

- Dorea / δωρεá
- Pronunciation: do-reh-ah;
- Description: Denotes a
free gift, stressing its gratuitous character. Always used in
the N.T. of a spiritual or supernatural gift; a gratuity.
- John 4:10
- Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift
[dorea] of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to
drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given
thee living water.
- Acts 2: 38
- And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one
of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins; and you shall receive the gift [dorea] of the Holy Spirit.
- Acts 8:19,20
- [Simon] saying, "Give me also this power, that any one on
whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." But Peter said
to him, "Your silver perish with you, because you thought you
could obtain the gift [dorea] of God with money!”

[dorea] following many trespasses brings justification. 17. If,
because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one
man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and
the free gift [dorea] of righteousness reign in life through the
one man Jesus Christ.
