III. Jesus’ Prayer Life

- Matt. 14:19
- Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and
taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven,
and blessed [eulogeo], and broke and gave the loaves to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
- Matt. 14:23
- And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the
mountain by himself to pray [proseuchomai]. When evening came,
he was there alone. [Mr. 6:45]
- Matt. 15:36
- He took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given
thanks [eucharisteo] he broke them and gave them to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. [Mark 8:6;
John 6:11, 23]
- Matt. 19:13
- Then children were brought to him that he might lay his
hands on them and pray [proseuchomai]. The disciples rebuked the
people.
- Matt. 26:26-27
- Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed
[eulogeo], and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said,
"Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had
given thanks [eucharisteo] he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of
it, all of you.” [Mark 14:23; Luke 22:17,19]
- Matt. 26:36-44
- Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and
he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go yonder and pray
[proseuchomai]." And taking with him Peter and the two sons of
Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to
them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here,
and watch with me." And going a little farther he fell on his
face and prayed [proseuchomai], "My Father, if it be possible,
let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as
thou wilt." And he came to the disciples and found them
sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me
one hour? Watch and pray [proseuchomai] that you may not enter
into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak." Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed
[proseuchomai], "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink
it, thy will be done." And again he came and found them
sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. So, leaving them again, he
went away and prayed [proseuchomai] for the third time, saying
the same words. [Mark 14:32-40; Luke 22:40-46].
- Matt. 26:53
- Do you think that I cannot appeal to [pray to; parakaleo] my
Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of
angels?

- And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and
went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed [proseuchomai].
- Mark 6:46

mountain to pray [proseuchomai].

opened.
- Luke 5:15-16
- But so much the more the report went abroad concerning him;
and great multitudes gathered to hear and to be healed of their
infirmities. But he withdrew to the wilderness and prayed
[proseuchomai].

- In these days he went out to the mountain to pray
[proseuchomai]; and all night he continued in prayer [proseuche]
to God.
- Luke 9:18
- Now it happened that as he was praying [proseuchomai] alone
the disciples were with him; and he asked them, "Who do the
people say that I am?"
- Luke 9:28-29
- Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him
Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray
[proseuchomai]. And as he was praying [proseuchomai], the
appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment
became dazzling white.
- Luke 22:31-32
- "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he
might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed [deomai] for you
that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again,
strengthen your brethren."
- John 14:16
- And I will pray [erotao] the Father, and he will give you
another Counselor, to be with you for ever.
- Heb. 5:7
- In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers [deesis]
and supplications [hiketeria], with loud cries and tears, to him
who was able to save him from death, and he was heard for his
godly fear.
