V. Exhortation to Pray / Encouragement to Ask

- Matt. 7:7-11
- "Ask [aiteo], and it will be given you; seek, and you will
find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who
asks [aiteo] receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who
knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks
[aiteo] him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks
[aiteo] for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much
more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those
who ask [aiteo] him.
- Matt. 21:22
- And whatever you ask [aiteo] in prayer [proseuche], you will
receive, if you have faith."
- Mark 11:24-25
- Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask [aiteo] in prayer
[proseuchomai], believe that you have received it, and it will
be yours. And whenever you stand praying [proseuchomai],
forgive, if you have anything against any one; so that your
Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses."
- Luke 21:36
- But watch at all times, praying [deomai] that you may have
strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to
stand before the Son of man."
- John 14:13-14
- Whatever you ask [aiteo] in my name, I will do it, that the
Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask [aiteo] anything
in my name, I will do it.
- John 15:7
- If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask [aiteo]
whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my
Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to
be my disciples.
- John 15:16
- You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you
that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should
abide; so that whatever you ask [aiteo] the Father in my name,
he may give it to you.
- John 16:22-26
- So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your
hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. In
that day you will ask [erotao] nothing of me. Truly, truly, I
say to you, if you ask [aiteo] anything of the Father, he will
give it to you in my name. Hitherto you have asked [aiteo]
nothing in my name; ask [aiteo], and you will receive, that your
joy may be full. "I have said this to you in figures; the hour
is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but
tell you plainly of the Father. In that day you will ask [aiteo]
in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray [erotao]
the Father for you.
- Romans 12:12
- Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant
in prayer [proseuche].
- Eph. 3:20
- Glory to God! He is able to do so much more than we can
think of or ask for [aiteo]. God uses the power that is working
in us.
- 1 Tim. 2:8
- I desire then that in every place the men should pray
[proseuchomai], lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling.
- James 1:5-7
- If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask [aiteo] of God, that
giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be
given him. But let him ask [aiteo] in faith, nothing wavering.
For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the
wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall
receive any thing of the Lord.
- 1 John 3:21-22
- Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence
before God; and we receive from him whatever we ask [aiteo],
because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
- 1 John 5:14-16
- And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we
ask [aiteo] anything according to his will he hears us. And if
we know that he hears us in whatever we ask [aiteo], we know
that we have obtained the requests [aitema: petition] made of
[aiteo] him. If any one sees his brother committing what is not
a mortal sin, he will ask [aiteo], and God will give him life
for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal;
I do not say that one is to pray [erotao] for that.
