A.  Teach Godliness / Fear of God / Wisdom

2 Timothy 3:15 (Scriptures)

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Deuteronomy 4:10 (His words)

Specially the day that thou stoodest before the Lord thy God in Horeb, when the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.

1 Tim. 6:13a-14 (His commandment --righteousness)

In the presence of God who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, I charge you to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ. (RSV)

1 Thes. 4:3a,7 (His will--sanctification)

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

B.  Teach History

Judges 2:10 (lack of historical knowledge)

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

Judges 2:11-12 (outcome of Israel's lack of historical knowledge)

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim: And they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger.

1 Cor. 10:11 (importance of)

Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples [examples]: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Exodus 13:8 (command to teach history)

And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the Lord did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.

And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.

C.  Teach All We Know [From Scriptural Point of View]

1 John 1:3 (teach our experience)

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (teach from Scriptural vantage)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Matthew 7:24,26 (teach child to apply what is known)

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand.

2 Peter 1:5-7 (character development should be goal)

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

  

D.  Teach Labor and Apprenticeship

Genesis 2:15 (labor important from the beginning)

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

2 Thes. 3:10 (Godly labor commanded)

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should eat.

2 Thes. 3:12 (godly labor commanded)

Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

1 Thes. 4:11 (godly labor commanded)

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you

Ephesians 4:28 (purpose for godly labor)

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Acts 20:35 (purpose for godly labor)

I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Proverbs 22:29 (result of godly labor)

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean (obscure; low-ranking) men.

For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

E.  Teach Moral Purity

Exodus 20:14 (adultery)

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Leviticus 10:20 (adultery)

And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Matt. 15:19 (fornication / adultery)

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man.

Heb.12:15-16a (fornication)

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God…lest there be any fornicator, or profane person.

1 Cor. 6:18 (fornication)

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
