X. How to Teach
A. Teaching Method
- Isaiah 28:9-10 (building)
-
Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to
understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and
drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept,
precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a
little, and there a little. (KJV)
- Proverbs 31:27-28 (by good example)
-
In her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the
ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her
children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and
he praiseth her. (KJV)
- Deut. 11:19-21 (continually)
-
And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when
thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way,
when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt
write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy
gates: That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your
children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to
give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. (KJV)
- 2 Samuel 12:1 (story)
- And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him,
and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich,
and the other poor… (KJV)
- [Note: Jesus, too, used stories to make his points.]

B. Godly Training: A Partnership
- Isaiah 54:13 (taught by Lord)
-
And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great
shall be the peace of thy children. (KJV)
- John 16:13 (guided by the Spirit)
-
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you
into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but
whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew
you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of
mine, and shall shew it unto you. (KJV)
- 1 Cor. 2:13 (taught by the Spirit)
-
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom
teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual
things with spiritual. (KJV)
- 1 Kings 8:58 (guide our hearts)
-
That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his
ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his
judgments, which he commanded our fathers.
(KJV)

C. Correction
Spanking is not politically correct. In some places, it is
thought criminal. Wrong thinking, though, of social scientists and
bureaucrats does not change God's thinking. He uses pain to teach us
not to violate physical and spiritual principles. He uses parents to
warn of major painful consequences to violations. Parents are His
instruments to do this by revealing minor painful consequences to
violations in order to prevent major painful consequences.
God's commands regarding correction, though, are not a license to
harm the child. Scriptures clearly state that a parent is not to
provoke a child to wrath. Abuse is clearly provocation and has
nothing to do with correction or love.
- Proverbs 13:24
-
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him
chasteneth him betimes. (KJV)
- Proverbs 19:18
-
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare
for his crying. (KJV)
- Proverbs 20:30
-
The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the
inward parts of the belly.
(KJV)
- Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As do stripes the inner
depths of the heart.* [* Literally the rooms of the belly]
((NKJV)
- Proverbs 22:15
-
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of
correction shall drive it far from him. (KJV)
- Proverbs 23:13-14
-
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou
beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt
beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
(KJV)
- Withhold not from a youth chastisement, When thou smitest
him with a rod he dieth not. Thou with a rod smitest him, And
his soul from Sheol thou deliverest.
((YLT)
- Proverbs 29:15
-
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself
bringeth his mother to shame. (KJV)
- Proverbs 29:17
-
Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give
delight unto thy soul. (KJV)
- Proverbs 3:11-12
-
My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary
of his correction: For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even
as a father the son in whom he delighteth. (KJV)
- Hebrews 12:11
-
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but
grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit
of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. (KJV)
- Proverbs 12:1
-
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth
reproof is brutish. (KJV)
- Proverbs 27:5,6
-
Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds
of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (KJV)
