II. The Holy Spirit of the Gospel

Hagios / άγιος

Pronunciation:  hag'-ee-os; adj.

Description:  Sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated).

Kurios / κύριος

Pronunciation:  koo'-ree-os; noun]

Description:  From kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Mr. (as a respectful title); God, Lord, master, Sir.

Parakletos / παράκλητος

Pronunciation:  par-ak'-lay-tos; noun

Description:  Literally called to one’s side, i.e., to one’s aid; suggests the capability or adaptability for giving aid. In a court of justice denotes a legal assistant, counsel for the defense, an advocate; generally one who pleads another’s cause; advocate, succourer, comforter. An intercessor, consoler.

Pneuma / πνεûμα

Pronunciation:  pnyoo'-mah; noun

Description:  A current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit.

Theos / θέος

Pronunciation:  theh'-os; noun

Description:  Of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with GSN3588—“the”) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very.

Matt. 1:18

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit. Literally: by Spirit Holy.

Matt. 1:20

But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit. Literally: by Spirit is Holy.

Matt. 3:11

"I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit and with fire."

And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw [Pneuma of the Theos] the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him. Literally: Spirit of the God.

Matt. 10:19-20

When they deliver you up, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the [Pneuma] Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Matt. 12:18

"Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my [Pneuma] Spirit upon him, and he shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles. Literally: the Spirit of Me upon Him.

Matt. 12:28

But if it is by [Pneuma] of [Theos] the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.Literally: in Spirit of God. 31. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against [Pneuma] the Spirit will not be forgiven. Literally: of the Spirit. 32. And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the [Pneuma] [of the] [Hagios] Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Matt. 22:43

He said to them, "How is it then that David, inspired by [Pneuma] the Spirit, calls him Lord, saying… (also Mark 12:36)

Matt. 28:19

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the [Hagios Pneuma] Holy Spirit.

Mark 1:8

I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit;” 10. Luke 1:15

Luke 1:41-42

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with [Pneuma] [Holy] the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed… Literally: of Spirit Holy.

Luke 1:67

And his (John’s) father Zechariah was filled with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying…

Luke 2:25-28

(25) Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit was upon him.

(26) And it had been revealed to him by the [Pneuma] [the] [Hagios] Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

(27) And inspired by the [Pneuma] Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,

Luke 3:16

John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Luke 3:22

And the [Pneuma] [the] [Hagios] Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, as a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased."

Luke 4:1

Luke 4:14

Luke 10:21

In that same hour he rejoiced in the [Pneuma] [the] [Hagios] Holy Spirit and said, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.

Luke 11:13

"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Luke 12:11-12

And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you are to answer or what you are to say; for [Hagios Pneuma] the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

John 1:32-33

And John bore witness, "I saw the [Pneuma] Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it [He] remained on him. I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the [Pneuma] Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit.'

John 3:5-8

Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and [Pneuma] the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the [Pneuma] Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the [Pneuma] Spirit." Literally: Answered Jesus, Truly, truly I say to you, Except one receive birth of water and Spirit, not he is able to enter into the kingdom of God! That receiving birth, from the flesh, flesh is. And that receiving birth from the Spirit, spirit is. Do not wonder because I told you, must You receive birth from above. The Spirit where he desires breathes and the voice of him you hear, but not know from where he comes, and where he goes. So is everyone having received birth from the Spirit.

John 3:34

For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for it is not by measure that he gives the [Pneuma] Spirit.

John 7:38-39

He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the [Pneuma] Spirit, which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet [Pneuma] the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

John 14:16, 17

And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor [parakletos], to be with you for ever, even the [Pneuma] Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you. Literally: The Spirit true or the Spirit truth.

John 14:26

But the Counselor [parakletos], the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

John 15:26

But when the Counselor [parakletos] comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me.

John 16:7-15

Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor [parakletos] will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the [Pneuma] Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

John 20:22

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit.
