III.  The Holy Spirit of Acts

Hagios / άγιος

Pronunciation:  hag'-ee-os; adj.

Description:  Sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated).

Kurios / κύριος

Pronunciation:  koo'-ree-os; noun]

Description:  From kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Mr. (as a respectful title); God, Lord, master, Sir.

Parakletos / παράκλητος

Pronunciation:  par-ak'-lay-tos; noun

Description:  Literally called to one’s side, i.e., to one’s aid; suggests the capability or adaptability for giving aid. In a court of justice denotes a legal assistant, counsel for the defense, an advocate; generally one who pleads another’s cause; advocate, succourer, comforter. An intercessor, consoler.

Pneuma / πνεûμα

Pronunciation:  pnyoo'-mah; noun

Description:  A current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively, a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit.

Theos / θέος

Pronunciation:  theh'-os; noun

Description:  Of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with GSN3588—“the”) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very.

In the first book, O The-ophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commandment through [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

Acts 1:4

And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me, 5. for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit."

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the [Hagios] [Pneuma] Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth."

Acts 2:17-18

'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out [the] [Pneuma] my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out [from] [Pneuma] [Spirit of me] my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

Acts 2:33

Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you see and hear.

Acts 2:38-39

And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of [Hagios] [Pneuma] the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him."

Acts 4:7-8

"By what power or by what name did you do this?" Then Peter, filled with [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders,

Acts 4:31

And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the [Hagios] [Pneuma] Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.

Acts 5:3

But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land?

Acts 5:9

But Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit [Pneuma] of the Lord [Kurios] Literally: Pneuma Kurios? Hark, the feet of those that have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."

Acts 5:32

And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the [Pneuma] [and] [Hagios] Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."

Acts 6:3

Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit [Pneuma] and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty.

Acts 6:10

But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit [Pneuma] with which he (Stephen) spoke.

Acts 7:51

"You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:29

Then the Spirit [Pneuma] said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Acts 8:39

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit [Pneuma] of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

Acts 9:17

And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled [of] [Pneuma] [Hagios] with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 9:31

Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of [Hagios] [Pneuma] the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

Acts 10:19

While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit [Pneuma] said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

Acts 10:38

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Acts 11:12-16

And the spirit [Pneuma] bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house: 15. And as I began to speak, the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost the [Pneuma] [Hagios].

Acts 11:24, 28

24) For he [Barnabas] was a good man, and full of the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

28) And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit [Pneuma] that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

Acts 13:2

As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Acts 13:4

So they, being sent forth by the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

Acts 13:9-11

Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season.

Acts 13:52

And the disciples were filled with joy, and [from] [Pneuma] [Hagios] with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 15:8-9

And God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us; and he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

Acts 15:28

For it seemed good to the [Hagios Pneuma] Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

Acts 16:6-7

And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden of the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and when they were come over against Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia; and the Spirit [Pneuma] of Jesus suffered them not;

Acts 19:2

And he said unto them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit [Hagios Pneuma] when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit [Hagios Pneuma] was given.

Acts 19:6

And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Acts 19:22-23

And now, behold, I go bound in the Spirit [Pneuma] unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: save that the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit testifieth unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

Acts 19:28

Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the [Pneuma] [Hagios] the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood.

Acts 21:4

And having found the disciples, we tarried there seven days: and these said to Paul through the Spirit [Pneuma], that he should not set foot in Jerusalem.

Acts 21:11

And coming to us, and taking Paul's girdle, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, Thus saith the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

Acts 28:25-27

And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the the [Pneuma] [Hagios] Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet unto your fathers, saying, Go thou unto this people, and say, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive: For this peoples heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest, haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.
